The way we do business

Target

1. Complete third party environmental audits on all close managed commercial/mixed use properties in the urban portfolio.

Achievement

We commissioned National Britannia to carry out these audits. All properties have been audited and followed up with a 3 month review. Many are now subject to their annual review. Recommendations arising from the audits are being implemented by the appropriate Managing Agent.

Marine aggregate dredger

Target

2. Conduct a 5 year review of our "annual area of seabed" dredged including an in-depth analysis of how the industry has managed its licences.

Achievement

Our report entitled “Marine Aggregate Dredging Five Year Review: the area involved 1998-2002” can be accessed on The Crown Estate website.

Target

3. Establish a cross functional Responsible Procurement Group and develop a detailed programme of work with specific milestones to implement the Responsible Procurement policy.

Achievement

The Responsible Procurement Group was established and we published a policy statement and internal guidance on timber and paper procurement. During 2006/07, we will be concentrating on sustainable design and construction guidance and energy procurement.

Target

4. Launch a programme of tailored environmental engagement with all urban managing agents, linking environmental requirements to their environmental performance.

Achievement

We launched the Environmental Performance Index on 2nd August 2005. The Index helps the managing agents improve their environmental performance in line with our CR objectives, through a process of monitoring, encouragement and practical help. It covers the efficient use of natural resources, a reduction in emissions, the curbing of waste, an increase in recycling and informing our suppliers and contractors of our CR objectives. In 2006/07, we have set our Agents a target to achieve at least 75% of the Foundation Criteria.

Rural Estate

Target

5. Develop and pilot best practice guidance notes for rural managing agents concerning CR standards to be incorporated in the building and repair programme.

Achievement

In conjunction with our Managing Agents and the Responsible Procurement Group, we developed and issued a policy statement and guidelines. Areas covered include Cottage Standards, communications with tenants, minimum property condition, energy efficiency, water quality and gas and electricity safety.
