Electronic Monitoring System

An Electronic Monitoring System (EMS) for recording dredging vessel activities on Crown Estate owned minerals is in place.

The EMS automatically records the date, time and position of all dredging activities. It has been installed on every dredging vessel working on Crown Estate licensed seabed since 1993, and provides a secure read out of the location of the dredging vessel every thirty seconds when the dredging equipment is deployed, and every thirty minutes otherwise to indicate that the EMS is functioning properly. All licensees are audited each year to confirm the quantities of material landed from each licence and to ensure that the regulator's conditions on tonnage have not been breached.
