Our interests include wind, wave and tidal power, carbon capture and storage, gas storage, marine aggregates and minerals, cables and pipelines. How is the portfolio performing?
Our Energy, Minerals & Infrastructure team regularly update maps and GIS datasets as part of a comprehensive set covering our offshore activities.
Offshore wind energy
As managers of the seabed out to the 12 nautical mile limit, we play a major role in the development of the offshore wind energy industry in the UK.
Although our mineral interests focus mainly on the extraction of marine aggregates, we do also have interests in salt and, more significantly, potash.
Cables and pipelines
Cables and pipelines is an established part of our business. Our attention focuses on how we can support industry and maintain the UK’s position as a key landing point for submarine telecoms.
We hold the rights for deposits of potash which lie beneath the UK seabed, which are mined by our tenants from the mainland.
Carbon capture and storage
We are working with developers to identify how carbon storage beneath the seabed can help the UK meet its targets on carbon emissions.
Natural gas storage
Under the 2008 Energy Act we hold the rights for gas storage within the Gas Importation and Storage Zone (GISZ), which extends out to the continental shelf.
