New technology inaugurated at Gunfleet Sands

Two next generation 6 MW Siemens offshore wind turbines have been installed at Gunfleet Sands by developer DONG Energy. The technology marks an important step in industry's efforts to reduce the cost of energy and brings closer a diverse, low-carbon energy supply for the UK.
DONG Energy will be using the demonstration project to verify turbine performance, reliability and functionality.

Triton Knoll offshore wind farm approved

Planning consent has been granted by the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change for the construction of an offshore wind farm of up to 1,200 MW at Triton Knoll, off the Lincolnshire and Norfolk coast. The project when completed could provide enough renewable electricity to meet the average needs of up to 820,000 households each year.
Offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 900 MW inaugurated

Two further UK offshore wind farms with a combined capacity of 900 MW were inaugurated this week.
On Wednesday 3 July the final phase of construction of the 270 MW Lincs offshore wind farm was formally recognised by joint owners Centrica Renewable Energy, Dong Energy and Siemens. The following day the completion of London Array, at 630 MW, currently the world's largest operational offshore wind farm, was also announced.
Our offshore wind programme operational capacity is now 3.6 GW, equating to approximately 5 per cent of the UK's electricity generation capacity.
