What we do

Although our involvement in offshore renewable energy is most visible in the wind farms out to sea, progress on the wave and tidal projects is advancing rapidly. To add to this we are also involved in natural gas storage and the capture and storage of CO2.

At a glance
  • £3.5 millionin income renewables
  • £100 millioncommitted by us to help projects
  • Round 1programme almost complete
  • More than halfRound 2 projects operational or under construction
  • 11wave and tidal projects in the Pentland Firth, with capacity for 1.6 GW
  • 1.5 GWfrom offshore wind – the UK is leading the world in installed capacity
  • Our businesses

We support and partner developers as they work to harness the potential of wind, wave and tide through some of the largest infrastructure projects in the world. To this we add working with industry on carbon capture and natural gas storage beneath the seabed.

    1. Offshore wind energy

We are playing a major role in developing this industry in the UK. The five rounds of offshore wind have each increased in scale and technical complexity.

    3. Carbon capture and storage

We are working with developers to identify how carbon storage beneath the seabed can help the UK meet its targets on carbon emissions.
