The Crown Estate recognises the significant value of the marine aquaculture industry to Scotland’s economy; in particular the communities and economies of the west coast, Hebrides and the Northern Isles. As part of our on-going support for the industry, from 1 July 2007 we introduced the environmental information funding assistance scheme.
Through the scheme we are making available financial support for the collection, collation and analysis of environmental data – information which may be requested to inform the reviews of existing fin fish farms by a panel appointed and chaired by the Scottish Executive. The reviews are part of the process for the granting of permanent planning permission under the Planning etc. (Scotland) Act 2006.
The scheme will apply to pre-1999 aquaculture developments that have not been assessed against the EIA (Fish Farming in Marine Waters) Regulations 1999, and where the review requires additional environmental information.
Applications will be accepted to assist funding the costs involved in obtaining new raw data, and its analysis, and / or the collation and analysis of existing raw data.
The scheme reflects our key stewardship priorities for our marine estate; conservation, communities and commerce. Suitably one of our aims is to provide assistance for the sustainable development of the aquaculture industry, a recommendation of the expert panel of the 2006 aquaculture rent review.
Application forms and guidance on the terms and conditions of this scheme are available in both Word and PDF format.
