Investment boosts marinas’ £6 million role in local economy
Our role is to manage and enhance the value of our marine assets. This includes issuing licences or leases for aggregates, aquaculture, and cables and pipelines. We are also responsible for marinas, moorings, and have an interest in at least parts of many ports and harbours.
Our job of managing nationally important coastal assets helps the businesses that generate the majority of our marine income.
We hold the rights to explore and utilise the natural resources of the UK continental shelf (excluding oil, gas and coal).
We continue to work with and promote the aquaculture industry, which in Scotland alone supports more than 6,000 jobs.
We have a range of processes in place to help cable and pipeline operators meet their business objectives.
We have over 17,000 licensed moorings around the UK.
Anybody wishing to carry out metal detecting on our foreshore requires a permit.
The main focus of our mineral interests is on the extraction of marine aggregates such as sand and gravel.
We work to ensure that wildfowling is sustainable across all our marine estates.
Marine research plays a central part in our commitment to exemplary environmental practice, sustainability, and taking the long-term view in our activities.
Stewardship represents our commitment to good environmental practice, sustainability, and taking the long-term view in managing the estate.
