Fishing For Litter scheme – 100 tonnes of marine litter

As part of the Fishing for Litter scheme, funded by our marine stewardship programme, over 100 tonnes of marine litter have been removed by fishing vessels in Scotland since April 2011. Participating fishermen have now cleared more than 465 tonnes of litter from Scottish seas since the project first began in 2005.

North Devon Beach Clean Series

Over 150 volunteers joined Surfers Against Sewage to remove almost half a tonne of marine litter from Woolacombe and Saunton beaches. The series is funded by our marine stewardship programme.

Helensburgh Sailing Club – new slipway

10 September 2011

The new purpose built slipway at Helensburgh Sailing Club was officially opened today.

The slipway helps to improve access to and from the marine environment for the rescue boat and disabled sailors, and has been part-funded through our marine stewardship fund.

Coastal change and engaging coastal community stakeholders

Following publication of reports on the role of works of art in understanding long term coastal change we organised a series of stakeholder events with Suffolk Coastal District Council.

Humber Estuary recreational disturbance study

For the first time information will be gathered on how many people are visiting and using the Humber Estuary for recreation. 

Managed by the Humber Management Scheme, and part-funded by The Crown Estate, the results will provide information to assist management of the Humber Estuary, an internationally important wildlife site.

Studland Bay moorings report published

New Crown Estate report on Studland Bay published. Commissioned as part of ongoing commitment to assist Marine Management Organisation's understanding of the issues surrounding potential impacts on the seagrass and seahorse population.

Tide terns for threatened seabirds

Conservationists are celebrating this week with the news that 12 little tern chicks have been raised from 18 breeding pairs on Chesil Beach. 

The site is fenced and protected by a team, many of whom are volunteers, and is made possible by a coalition of organisations including the Chesil and Fleet Nature Reserve, Natural England, the Dorset AONB partnership and RSPB, The Crown Estate's marine stewardship fund and the Court Leet.

The Green Blue's marine toolkit is designed to help managers of leisure boating businesses and leaders of boat clubs abide by regulations and make more of their facilities by reducing waste and increasing efficiency.

We are helping to fund the marine toolkit via our marine stewardship fund.

Funding for new pontoon, Scalloway Boating Club, Shetland

07 July 2011

We have awarded funding for a replacement pontoon in Scalloway Harbour.

The new pontoon will see even greater community use of the facility and provide a haven for visiting yachts, boats and pleasure craft.
