  • Biomass boiler for energy from forestry material

    Planning application has been submitted to the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead for a biomass boiler to convert waste woodchips into electricity, reducing consumption of fossil fuels in Windsor Great Park.

    The submission proposes using waste material from our forestry activities, and siting the unit on an existing brownfield site.

  • Chelsea Pensioner selects Christmas trees for Royal Hospital Chelsea

    The Royal Hospital Chelsea have taken delivery of four Crown Estate Christmas trees.

    Selected by Chelsea Pensioner and retired Regimental Sergeant Major Ray Huggins MBE with Chief Forester John Deakin, the Christmas trees will stand in the Hospital's outdoor courts and will be decorated with white lights.

  • Crown Estate employee volunteers in Kenya

    Windsor estate employee Ashley Sturgess recently presented on his Kenyan volunteering experiences to the Thames Valley Training Association.

    Arranged through the Thames Valley Training Association, Ashley was selected from 15 apprentices. He spent three days volunteering in a Kenyan village, working on cooking shelters and water points, then a week at an orphanage in Dagoretti, Nairobi, building a shelter for volunteer staff there.

    The brand new Royal Landscape website has been launched. The website brings together new features such as group bookings forms, greater ease of navigation, key information modules, video link promos for the Savill and Valley Gardens, and integration with social media.

  • Father Christmas to visit the Savill Garden, Windsor Great Park

    Father Christmas will be paying special visits to the Savill Garden in December, between 11.00-16.00 every weekend day, as well as Thursday 20 and Friday 21. Tickets must be booked, at £5 per child, and go on sale from The Savill Building from 1 November 2012.

  • Free autumn nature trail, The Royal Landscape

    Over the autumn half term, explore The Royal Landscape looking for signs of wildlife. Children will enjoy trying to catch a glimpse of the feathered and furry residents of Windsor Great Park. The trail is free and a map can be collected from The Savill Building. Open 10am - 4pm, 27 October - 4 November 2012.

  • 1,400 school children attend Windsor estate open day

    Windsor Great Park welcomed 1,400 local primary school children on 13 June for the biennial open day. The children were given the opportunity to discover the workings of a large rural estate through hands on activities and demonstrations from estate staff.
