Pentland Firth projects win renewable energy landmark renewable deal of the year award

The Crown Estate's wave and tidal Pentland Firth projects have won the 2010 Euromoney and Ernst & Young Renewable Energy Landmark Renewable Deal of the Year Award. The Crown Estate received this honour for its vision and focus in creating the world's first commercial scale wave and tidal leasing round in Pentland Firth and Orkney waters. The deal was considered to be a complex deal with a wow factor. This award, the first of its kind, was voted by the industry on the night.

Martin Simpson, head of energy and technology at The Crown Estate said: "It's fantastic to receive this peer nominated award which has really put the emerging wave and tidal industry firmly on the marine renewable energy map and places the industry firmly in the spotlight, particularly for the financial community. It recognises the endeavours of The Crown Estate in generating significant interest in the projects. The international setting of this award is also particularly encouraging, as we continue to work strategically with the industry to create a growing market."

The Euromoney and Ernst & Young Renewable Energy Awards were founded in 2004 to recognise excellence and innovation in the renewable energy industry.
