We are National Property Company of the Year

The Crown Estate was announced as national property company of the year at last night's Estates Gazette Awards.

The Crown Estate saw off challenges from some of the UK's top property companies to claim the honour at the awards ceremony at the London Hilton.

The judges said that there was "something magical" about The Crown Estate and that they anticipate that the work currently being done by the property organisation will "change the face of central London."

The judges' comments recognised the work we have been undertaking in the West End. Last year saw the completion of the multi-award winning Quadrant 3 scheme, which set a new benchmark for sustainable central London development. We also announced our strategy for St James's which set out plans for a £500m investment in the area.

The judges also praised The Crown Estate for narrowing our focus on to key sectors, helping to create a lower-risk portfolio. By doing this, we have managed to deliver a four per cent profit increase with an 11 per cent increase on our capital value.

We have not only had an impressive year in terms of our central London portfolio. The regional portfolio, which includes retail parks, shopping centres and business parks across the UK, has grown substantially. Now worth £1.5bn the portfolio positions us as the seventh largest owner of prime out of town shopping parks in the country.

Moving forward our investment in St James's will rejuvenate the entire area. With St James's Gateway due to complete next year and our most ambitious project yet, St James's Market, progressing through planning, 2013 is set to be an equally successful year for our £8bn property organisation.

Paul Clark, Director of Investment and Asset Management, said: "This award is a wonderful recognition of the hard work of our entire real estate team. It is a testament to the strength of our investment strategy and our continued focus on our core areas, central London, prime retail schemes outside the capital, strategic rural land and offshore energy."
