Savill Garden free throughout December

The Savill Garden is celebrating Christmas with free entry to the garden throughout December.

06 November 2013

The winter beds bring together a variety of colourful and fragrant plants that brave the colder months and the seasonal displays in the Queen Elizabeth Temperate House will be stunning. Enjoy the brilliant stem colour of the dogwoods, willows and fine displays of the National Collection of mahonias scattered through The Savill Garden.

The free entry will save a family £16. The garden is open from 10.00 to 16.30 in winter with last entry at 16.00 (normal car parking charges apply).

Mark Flanagan, Keeper of The Gardens, commented: "We have created The Savill Garden winter plantings around a backbone of coloured stemmed dogwoods and willows. Swathes of dogwoods graduate from yellow to orange, red and deep purple. The willows provide spectacular contrasts including 'Britzensis' with orange stems and 'Golden Ness' with sparkling yellow canes. Enjoy this explosion of colour free on a cold winter's day in December."

The bright yellow colour and deep scent of mahonias, including rare and unusual examples, which form an important National Collection, will be at their peak around the garden.

The Queen Elizabeth Temperate House will also have a vibrant seasonal display, providing plenty of colour and a heady mix of perfumes. Pots of white hyacinths and displays of poinsettias and cyclamen will provide Christmas cheer.

After a brisk walk in the garden, visit the restaurant and enjoy delicious Christmas treats from the in-house bakery team including homemade cakes and mince pies coupled with a steamy hot chocolate. A seasonal menu is also available. Browse in the gift shop in The Savill Building for an extensive range of imaginative Christmas gifts, decorations and stocking fillers for all the family.

The Savill Garden and Building will be closed on 24 and 25 December only; and open every day including Boxing Day, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day.
