Curzon Cinemas and Michael Kors sign for Westgate Alliance’s flagship development

Today the Westgate Alliance, the joint venture between The Crown Estate and Land Securities, has signed a 5-screen Curzon Cinema and a flagship Michael Kors to its development, Westgate Oxford.

The scheme would bring world-class national and international retailers to Oxford, creating the most exciting shopping experience in the city. These best in class brands join an impressive and growing line up including major flagship stores for John Lewis and Next.

Curzon Cinemas has signed a 21,690 sq ft (2,015 sq m) boutique cinema space at Westgate. The leading arthouse cinema chain has redefined cinema going in the UK and brings an entirely new cinematic experience to this heritage city. 

International fashion success Michael Kors has agreed a 2,217 sq ft (206 sq m) unit, marking Westgate’s prestige appeal. The multi award-winning, leading premium American fashion brand’s store is designed to perfectly showcase its impressive range of women’s fashion to the savvy Oxford shopper.

The 800,000 sq ft (74,300 sq m) city centre development is due for completion in autumn 2017. Following the granting of Outline Planning Permission in March 2014, Westgate’s detailed design proposals and Reserved Matters have been submitted. A decision is due in the autumn ahead of the scheduled commencement of works on site in early 2015.

The design of the scheme is a collaboration between five architectural practices, and reflects a modern, innovative retail and leisure space set in the midst of a world-famous heritage city. As such the centre has been designed to complement and integrate seamlessly with its historic setting. Both the location and design of the scheme responds to high levels of demand from national and international retailers alike.

The development has already secured John Lewis, creating a highly sought after 142,000 sq ft (13,000 sq m) flagship store across 3 floors.

CBRE and Cushman & Wakefield act as joint retail leasing agents for Westgate Alliance, while Davis Coffer Lyons acts as the food and beverage leasing agent.
