The construction of the new play area forms part of a £3 million investment by The Crown Estate designed to improve the experience for visitors to the park.

Other initiatives currently underway at the Coliseum under the investment plan include installing new exterior building facades and covered walkways to create a more modern and welcoming environment for visitors. These works are expected to be completed later this year. In addition to the on-going investment in the park’s public spaces, the Coliseum has also continued to improve its mix of retail tenants, highlighted by the recent opening of fashion retailers Debenhams, New Look and Outfit.

The new ship, named The Golden Raven after a competition held in conjunction with Hinderton School, was officially opened by the Mayor of Ellesmere Port, Cllr Brian Jones at a ribbon cutting event this weekend. The school also received £100 of book vouchers for playing their part in the play park initiative.

Hannah Milne, Regional Portfolio Manager said: “Across our portfolio we want to create distinct, high quality shopping destinations, which engage visitors and bring a range of benefits to the local area. The play park is a fantastic new attraction for families and a great example of how we are investing to enliven the park’s public spaces and improve the overall environment for visitors.”

Mayor of Ellesmere Port Brian Jones said: “The new play park at the Coliseum Shopping Park looks fantastic, and is a great addition to Ellesmere Port and the surrounding area.”

On 27 September, visitors to the Coliseum will have even more to enjoy when the ‘Underneath the Big Green Leaf’ event comes to the park. The family-fun day aims to engage children in sustainability and biodiversity with a range of fun, interactive activities arranged beneath a giant inflatable leaf canopy. As part of the event, local charities and community groups will be invited to exhibit their green initiatives and compete for the Big Green Leaf Community Award. There will also be exclusive retailer and restaurant offers and discounts for shoppers to enjoy plus a chance to win shopping vouchers and prizes.

The Crown Estate is one of the UK’s largest owners of prime regional retail property, with a portfolio which includes 17 shopping parks in places like Newcastle, Nottingham and Swansea.
