On Sunday 15 November Regent Street will become traffic-free for the day and the stunning new lights concept will be unveiled. There will also be exclusive activities which begin from 12 noon followed by a Christmas show for all the family.

This is the first year of an exciting new scheme designed by ACT Lighting design and sponsored by Jo Malone London, who recently opened their first global flagship on London’s Regent Street.

Darcey Bussell will be switching on the lights and the show, hosted by Classic FM’s Myleene Klass and Aled Jones, will feature performances from trumpeter Alison Balsom, soprano Laura Wright, the cast of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the Philharmonia Orchestra.

History of the Regent Street Christmas Lights

The Regent Street Christmas lights are one of London’s major tourist attractions – the Regent Street Association was prompted to organise Christmas lights after an article in the Daily Telegraph in 1954 commented on how drab London looked during Christmas.

Over the years, the display has also been sponsored by a host of partners including: American Express, Thorn Lighting, British Airways, National Power, The Disney Store, Cameron Mackintosh, Enid Blyton and Yves Saint Laurent.

Some of the personalities who have turned the lights on in the past are His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales, Kylie Minogue, Dame Edna, Sir Anthony Hopkins, Joan Collins, McFly and Colin Firth.
