Celebrating the opening of Rushden Lakes

Over 200 stakeholder and friends of Rushden Lakes joined us on Thursday 20th July to celebrate the completion of phase one and take a sneak peek at the shopping centre before the official opening.

20 July 2017

All of those attending the event played a part in the creation of Rushden Lakes. Some had been involved at the outset, helping in securing permission for the development, others had worked on the design, build or supported in safeguarding the wildlife in the area.

This included the ‘Yes to Rushden Lakes’ campaigners who galvanised local support and worked tirelessly to bring the new retail and leisure destination to Northamptonshire. The group, made up of local Councillors Gill and Andy Mercer, and local resident Helen Bathurst, made Rushden Lakes one of the most positively supported planning applications ever, with over a thousand letters of support sent to the Secretary of State.

Also in attendance were Councillor Steven North, leader of East Northamptonshire Council and Brian Eversham, chief executive of the Wildlife Trust BCN for the region, who both praised the hard work, dedication and collaboration of the many parties who have brought the vision for Rushden Lakes to reality.

The event had a wealth of surprises for guests – catwalk shows of the latest collections from House of Fraser, Primark and M&S, cocktail making and glass decorating to make their personalised souvenir of the night – and everyone left with a branded Rushden Lakes tote bag filled with Rushden Lakes goodies.

The first phase of Rushden Lakes will see more than 40 retailers, restaurants, cafes and leisure providers opening their doors. The phased opening commences on 28 July, with stores continuing to open through the summer and culminates with a full launch weekend in late September 2017.
