We have announced today the first series of agreements reached with offshore wind developers, including EDF Energy Renewables, Eneco Wind UK Limited (Eneco) and Forewind Limited, to replace their previous zone development agreements with project specific agreements.

Today’s planning approval for offshore wind energy at Dogger Bank takes the total of consented projects in the North Sea zone to 4.8 gigawatts (GW), almost equal to all the offshore wind capacity now in operation in the UK.

The Crown Estate has today launched two pieces of work for the UK’s offshore wind industry: a report reviewing the performance of the UK’s operational offshore wind portfolio, and a high resolution modelled dataset for wind resource.

We have published new data on our online Marine Data Exchange (MDE), making it the largest collection of offshore wind speed and direction data available. This will help better inform wind farm location selection and development and reduce future development costs.

We have published a vast collection of new offshore data and information on our online Marine Data Exchange (MDE). This data – totalling over 11.5 terabytes (TB) – has been gathered from a wide range of surveys and technical studies from the former Celtic Array offshore wind project off the coast of Anglesey in Wales, and from the First Flight Wind offshore wind project off the coast of County Down, Northern Ireland.

The Crown Estate, manager of the UK seabed, has welcomed today’s news that E.ON has confirmed that it will invest in and build the £1.3 billion, Rampion Offshore Wind Farm, which will be situated 13 km off the Sussex coast, alongside its partner in the project, the UK Green Investment Bank plc (GIB).

The Crown Estate, Marine Scotland and Welsh Government have announced they will be funding Aquatera Ltd and their delivery partners MarineSpace and the European Marine Energy Centre (EMEC) to run a secretariat function for the new Offshore Renewables Joint Industry Programme (ORJIP) for Ocean Energy.

Today’s news that two offshore wind projects have been successful in the first auction for renewable power held under the Department for Energy and Climate Change’s ‘Contract for Difference’ (CfD) regime, coupled with the findings of a new industry report, show that costs in offshore wind are coming down faster than originally expected.
