BELL SQUARE PAVILION TO GET FACE LIFT

9 July 2009

The Crown Estate, owner of the CrownGate Shopping Centre in Worcester, will soon begin the redevelopment of the underused pavilion by Huntingdon Hall, Bell Square. The work will see the currently vacant building replaced with an entirely new glass structure, which will provide a distinctive centrepiece for The Crown Estate’s £5 million refurbishment of Chapel Walk, due for completion this autumn.

The renovation of Chapel Walk is part of The Crown Estate’s ongoing investment in Worcester and includes work to improve ceiling heights, install new lighting and a comprehensive re-paving programme; a significant investment that will enhance the shopping experience in CrownGate.

One of the key problems with the current conservatory unit has been that it is unsuited to the needs of modern retailers. Jim Yates, Head of Development at The Crown Estate comments: “The pavilion in Bell Square is not only in a prominent location, but it has immense potential. The new pavilion will provide a unique and far more suitable retail space, thus increasing the appeal of Chapel Walk for quality retailers.”

The focus of the redevelopment plan has been to sensitively introduce fresh, contemporary finishes within Chapel Walk’s historic context. With new paving, ceilings, eco-friendly lighting and glazed canopies, the transformation of the pavilion into a focal point for Chapel Walk has been welcomed by tenants.

Jim Yates continued: “The tenants have been incredibly understanding and positive about the development, which we know will help to ensure the success of CrownGate’s current and future retail operators.”
