Press Release

INTERNATIONAL FLAGSHIP STORES AND RESTAURANTS CONTINUE OPENING ON REGENT STREET

19 March 2007

The Crown Estate can announce the latest wave of flagship stores and restaurants establishing Regent Street as a world-class shopping destination.

The latest addition is COS (Collection of Style) at 222 Regent Street, the former Liberty building. An extension of H&M, the new COS store, designed by William Russell and opened on 16 March 2007, features larch mosaic flooring and modular hanging rail systems.

Savile Row will soon welcome the American clothing brand Abercrombie & Fitch, as they open their first flagship store outside the USA in April. Also arriving is Samsonite, the global travel solutions brand.

This is the continuation of a trend for Regent Street. Last year USA shops Tommy Hilfiger, Brooks Brothers and Timberland chose the shopping destination for their flagships. This year sees the arrival of Spanish brands: Hoss Intropia has just opened its first standalone shop and joining them shortly is Desigual, a young and sexy casual wear brand for men and women.

But activity is not just the preserve of the new arrivals. Mappin & Webb are relocating this spring with a brand new flagship store. Founded over 200 years ago, Mappin & Webb is one of the UK's leading retailers of fine jewellery and silverware, watches and glassware. The Gap store on Regent Street is being refurbished and will house the full collection when it reopens in April.

Alongside the stores new restaurants are opening up and down Regent Street. Adding to the Spanish flavour is tapas bar and restaurant La Tasca, due to open on 23 March 2007 at 300 Regent Street. Haiku, one of Cape Town’s leading restaurants, will open soon at 15 New Burlington Place – the first of its kind in London. Just a few steps from Regent Street, it promises a relaxing haven with natural crystal, stone and wood interiors and a Pan-Asian inspired menu taking influences from Japan, Thailand, India and China.

There are also new additions to Heddon Street, the Regent Street food quarter. The month of May sees the opening of Aubaine, a restaurant and wine bar serving a menu of modern French bistro fayre for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Aubaine will offer savoury and sweet patisseries and a superb selection of daily baked bread to purchase and take away. A new Italian restaruant – Piccolino – will grace Heddon Street soon.

Regent Street continues to generate a unique shopping experience in the heart of London. The mix of new global brands and familiar classical names brings a unique chemistry to the street, and the process will continue as the £500m redevelopment of Regent Street progresses.
