OPEN AIR THEATRE RETURNS BY POPULAR DEMAND TO THE SAVILL GARDEN, WINDSOR GREAT PARK

2 June 2009

Following last year’s sell-out performances, The Chapterhouse Theatre Company is presenting Sense and Sensibility, A Midsummer Night’s Dream and Romeo and Juliet in the beautiful surroundings of The Royal Landscape’s Savill Garden in August.

Operations Manager Nick Day said: “For the first time last year, we had open-air theatre on The Lawns within The Savill Garden and it was so popular with visitors that we have invited The Chapterhouse Theatre Company back again this year. The Savill Garden provides an extraordinary setting for the performances with a magnificent display of summer colour and the heavy scent of flowers which gives the productions a unique edge. The plays that we have chosen should have wide appeal and we look forward to welcoming theatre goers to this unique experience.”

Romeo and Juliet on 20 August

Love, music and beauty is promised with 'Romeo and Juliet', Shakespeare’s tale of star-crossed lovers on 20 August. A large cast, magnificent costumes and an enchanting musical score promise to make this one of the most memorable experiences of the summer.

Sense and Sensibility on 21 August

Enjoy an evening of Regency wonderment with 'Sense and Sensibility' on 21 August. This brand new adaptation of Jane Austen’s lively tale follows the Dashwood sisters as they fall in love, make mistakes and experience heartbreak for the first time in their quest to find a balance between sense and sensibility in the decadent world of nineteenth-century society.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream on 22 August

Flitting fairies, forest bound lovers and raucous tradesmen all join to create Shakepeare’s glorious romantic comedy 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream' on 22 August. With music especially written for Shakespeare’s magnificent verse, lovely costumes and a splendid band of travelling players, this promises to be a fantastic performance.

To enhance this magical summer experience, theatre goers will be able to enjoy the special privilege of bringing a picnic into certain areas of The Savill Garden from 6 pm on the evening of the plays. The award winning Savill Building will also be open from 6 pm and the restaurant will be serving light meals before the play begins. During the interval, there will be a bar and ice cream will also be available.

Audience members are welcome to bring along their own chairs or rugs for the evening, although there will be some chairs available in the auditorium for those who don’t have their own.

Being an outdoor performance, it is advisable to come dressed for the weather of the day, as the performances will continue in all but the most severe of weather.

Tickets are now on sale from The Savill Building with no booking fee. Tickets are also available online at www.seetickets.com (a booking fee is charged via this website). Tickets are £12 per adult; students and children under 16 are £8; and a family ticket (2 adults and 2 children) is £35. There is a 10% discount for group bookings of 10 or more people. Gates open from 6 pm and all of the performances begin at 7.30 pm.
