OPEN AIR THEATRE COMPANY TO PERFORM IN UNIQUE SETTING OF THE SAVILL GARDEN, WINDSOR GREAT PARK

26 June 2008

The beautiful Savill Garden, Windsor Great Park, is the backdrop to three plays which will be performed by The Chapterhouse Theatre Company in August. For the first time, The Lawns within The Savill Garden will provide a unique setting for the performances with a magnificent display of summer colour in the garden and the heavy scent of flowers in the air.

Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland will take place on Thursday 21 August at 6.45pm and will provide an evening of family entertainment. A show for children of all ages, this production features the most famous characters from Lewis Carroll’s masterpiece and has music, song and dance to accompany some of the marvellous poetry. At this special performance, guests will be invited to come along as their favourite Alice character and join in with the fancy dress parade during the interval.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream can be enjoyed on Friday 22 August at 7.30pm. With music especially written for Shakespeare’s magnificent verse, lovely costumes and a splendid band of travelling players, this promises to be one of the best entertainments of the summer. The audience will join flitting fairies, forest bound lovers and raucous tradesmen.

King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table will be performed on Saturday 23 August at 7.30pm. This is a new Chapterhouse production with a script specially commissioned from the world famous stories of Camelot, Arthur and Merlin. In the fantastical world of medieval knights, join a company of travelling players as they tell the heroic deeds of perhaps the greatest king of any time or place. From humble beginnings as a servant, to the drawing of the sword from the stone, through to the creation of Camelot, join Arthur on his journey as his tale unfolds with sword, sorcery and song.

To enhance this magical summer experience, theatre goers will be able to enjoy the special privilege of bringing a picnic into certain areas of The Savill Garden from 6pm. The award winning Savill Building will also be open from 6pm and the restaurant will be serving light meals before the performance begins. During the interval, there will be a bar and ice cream will also be on sale.

The Savill Garden is part of The Royal Landscape, which also includes the Valley Gardens and Virginia Water. It is one of England’s finest woodland and ornamental garden with over 35 acres of trees, shrubbery, ponds and streams, lawns, meadows and formal beds which are home to some of the world’s most decorative plants.
