ULLAPOOL HARBOUR IMPROVEMENTS SET TO BOOST VISITOR NUMBERS
10 August 2009
Ullapool Harbour has been given a welcome boost, with the installation of eight new visitor moorings, thanks to around £18,000 in funding from The Crown Estate.
The new moorings will provide much needed facilities for visiting yachts and will help promote sustainable development of the area for tourism and recreation.
Kevin Peach, Harbour Master and Chief Executive of Ullapool Harbour Trust, said: “The trot moorings are a very welcome addition to the harbour and they have already proved to be very popular, with seven visiting yachts on the first evening. Ullapool Harbour Trustees would like to thank The Crown Estate for advancing funding for this project which can only enhance Ullapool’s share of the leisure market.”
Paul Bancks, Coastal Manager (Scotland), The Crown Estate, said: “We are delighted to have been able to support this scheme and pleased that the moorings are now being put to good use. We’re sure that these improved facilities at the harbour will encourage more tourists to visit the area throughout the sailing season and help boost tourism in Ullapool and surrounding area.”
The moorings have officially been in operation since 17 July, after being installed by North West Marine Ltd of Tobermory, Mull. Materials were supplied by FPM Henderson of Glasgow.
