THE CROWN ESTATE APPOINTS HUNTON & WILLIAMS AND NORTON ROSE TO ENERGY LAWYERS PANEL

14 April 2008

The Crown Estate has appointed Norton Rose LLP and Hunton & Williams jointly to its energy lawyers panel.

The energy lawyers panel will support The Crown Estate by undertaking legal work on its marine estate interests. The panel, with a specific offshore energy focus has been established in light of The Crown Estate’s increased activity in the renewable energy sector.

Both firms beat off stiff competition from a total of seven firms that tendered for the work. The panel has been in place from 1 April 2008.

Vivienne King, Legal Director at The Crown Estate said: “There has never been a more important time to work in this field and the breadth of experience these firms bring collectively makes them ideal for The Crown Estate. We are delighted to have Norton Rose and Hunton & Williams on board and look forward to working with them going forward.”

John Deacon at Hunton & Williams said: “We are very much looking forward to working with The Crown Estate upon these interesting and innovative projects.”

Richard Metcalf, Head of Energy and Utilities at Norton Rose LLP said: “At a time when security of energy supply and renewable energy are issues at the top of the national agenda we are delighted to be chosen to support The Crown Estate in its work to harness the clean energy potential of the marine estate around the UK.”

The Crown Estate is the owner of territorial seabed and, putatively, of all sovereign rights in the seabed (other than in relation to oil and gas extraction) exercisable by the UK beyond territorial waters.
