THE CROWN ESTATE SPONSORS WORLD PREMIER OF GROUPE F’S ‘JOUEURS DE LUMIÉRES’
15 June 2004
Fire and flame lit up Victoria Park, one of east London’s favourite open spaces this weekend, Saturday 12 June, as Groupe F performed the world premier of ‘Joueurs de Lumiéres’ (‘Players of Lights’).
Co-sponsored by The Crown Estate, the event thrilled a crowd of over 25,000, including many Crown Estate tenants from the Victoria Park estate in Hackney and Tower Hamlets, enjoying an event right on their doorsteps.
This free community event was created as part of the innovative programme of ‘LIFT 04: Enquiry’ (London International Festival of Theatre 04). Other sponsors of this event include The Arts Council of England, Institut Français and Tower Hamlets Council.
This event is a return to Victoria Park for Christophe Berthonneau and Groupe F, having performed ‘Garden of Light’ in 2001, which was also sponsored by The Crown Estate, as part of the ‘LIFT 01’ programme.
The pyrotechnics of Christophe Berthonneau and his company Group F have awed audiences in cities across the world, including animating the whole of the Sagrada Familia as part of ‘Celebrate Gaudi’ in Barcelona 2002, the Inauguration of the Millennium Bridge in London in 2001, and the Millennium Eiffel Tower Celebrations for Paris 2000.
