Scout Campsite Upgrade

At the Bears Rails Scout Campsite in Windsor Great Park, we've contributed towards a new toilet and shower building that will open up access for disabled visitors and significantly improve the current facilities.

Scout camp at Bear Rails

Located near Windsor Castle and alongside a lake, Bears Rails is a traditional Scout campsite that hosts packs and troops throughout the year, as well as Duke of Edinburgh groups and an International Jamboree for Scouts and Guides every five years. Scouts camping at Bears Rails enjoy the  privilege of staying overnight on the campsite in the Park, when the gates are closed to other visitors.

This will significantly improve the current facilities, giving people with disabilities the chance to enjoy camping experiences at Windsor Great Park, as well as creating new opportunities for groups.”

Phil Edwards, Parks Manager at The Crown Estate

Supporters of Bears Rails Scout Campsite recently launched a fundraising campaign to remove the old, unsatisfactory toilet block and replace it with modern facilities that are accessible for disabled visitors and can be more easily maintained. The upgraded building will also have showers and an adult only area.

Philip Edwards, Parks Manager at The Crown Estate said: “We're delighted to provide funding and support towards the new toilet and shower building at Bears Rails Scout Campsite. This will significantly improve the current facilities, giving people with disabilities the chance to enjoy camping experiences at Windsor Great Park, as well as creating new opportunities for groups.”

Windsor Great Park, the only Royal Park managed by The Crown Estate, was once part of a vast Norman hunting forest. With a Royal history spanning over 1,000 years, this sustainable working rural estate remains unspoilt in many ways. Across a varied landscape of woodland, gardens, grassland and formal avenues, visitors encounter historical monuments, ancient oaks and horticultural displays, as well as wildlife, plants and fungi. There is something for everyone, at any time of year.
