Whilst the majority of The Crown Estate’s commercial portfolio is located in central London, other significant holdings are located around the country. In the 1980s it was decided to diversify the commercial portfolio so that it was not completely dependent upon central London’s performance and now about 25% of the capital value of The Crown Estate’s commercial portfolio is held outside of this area.
We have investments in Birmingham, Manchester, St Albans, Edinburgh and Berkshire as well as business parks in Guildford, Oxford and Cambridge. There are retail warehouse parks in Cheltenham, Altrincham and Leamington Spa, industrial holdings in Hemel Hempstead, Taunton and Norwich, and a large shopping centre in Worcester.
Our commercial properties outside London continue to expand with a new community medical centre at Taunton, and the further extension of the mixed uses on land at Thetford. Changes from agricultural to commercial use will be made after local community consultation and with due deference to our commitment to good stewardship, historic conservation and sound environmental practices.
