The Crown Estate Scottish Salmon Farmer Awards
Scottish salmon is one of the world’s finest foods.
Yet Scottish salmon farmers don’t always get the recognition they deserve for the excellent standards of fish husbandry they use to produce a top quality food that’s both healthy and affordable.
The Scottish Salmon Farmer Awards aim to highlight and reward this innovation and best practice.

Awards
The inaugural awards in 2006 were such a success that we received queries at the gala dinner about the next competition for 2007. Entries were called for at the beginning of 2007, with the shortlist announced in April. The awards ceremony was held on 31 May 2007.
The standard of entries made the decision process very difficult, but after careful consideration, the two Salmon Farming Companies of the Year were:
- Small-to-medium Company of the Year (up to 4,000 tonnes) - Wester Ross Fisheries Ltd
- Medium-to-large Company of the Year (more than 4,000 tonnes) - Scottish Sea Farms Ltd.
The event was held at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness, where guests dined on a selection of the finest produce from farms around The Crown Estate.
The judges were Peter Dryburgh, Director of NAFC Marine Centre; Dennis Overton, Managing Director of Aquascot; Christina Reid, Aquaculture Editor of Fish Update and Fish Farmer; Professor Phil Thomas, Chairman of the Scottish Aquaculture Code of Good Practice Management Committee; and Dr Carolyn Heeps (Chair), Head of Offshore and Environment at The Crown Estate.
