Established in 1999, The Crown Estate's marine communities fund has already distributed nearly £2 million to a wide range of practical projects around the coast.
The fund was established to provide support to initiatives and programmes which contribute to the development of best practice, and make a significant contribution to the good management and stewardship of the marine estate.
The fund also supports projects raising awareness and involving coastal communities in the benefits of offshore renewable energy in the UK.
Projects must be directly relevant to Crown Estate property and comply with The Crown Estate Act 1961.
For further details about the fund visit our terms of reference and list of frequently asked questions pages.
We welcome well developed and fully costed applications for projects around the UK coast. The application process is simple and straightforward and we have designed application forms for you to use. For small projects (applications for less than £10,000), please use the small application form, for large applications (over £10,000) please use the large application form.
All applications are assessed by an assessment panel.
Funding Awards Process
Due to the large number of applications which we now receive we no longer operate a rolling process of assessing applications. In its place we have introduced two funding rounds per year. For projects applying for funding in this financial year (2007/08) the assessment panel met on 6 June 2007. The fund has now been fully committed for 2007/08.
Projects for financial year 2008/09 will be considered by the assessment panel meeting which will take place in November 2007 with a deadline for applications on 25 October 2007. We can receive project applications any time before the deadline. Please note that the following deadline for applications will be in June 2008.
