CALLS FOR REGISTRATION OF INTEREST IN OFFSHORE WINDFARM DEVELOPMENT WITHIN SCOTTISH TERRITORIAL WATERS

Closing Date: 12:00 noon, Monday 23 June 2008

The Crown Estate is inviting companies or consortia interested in developing commercial scale windfarms (i.e. installed capacity of 100 MW or more), within Scottish territorial waters to register initial expressions of interest. Registered companies or consortia will be invited to submit project proposals for consideration and given three months to prepare and submit such proposals.

The Scottish government sees considerable potential for wind generation in waters off Scotland. However, within territorial waters, initial discussions suggest that windfarm development may be limited. Given this, the Scottish government does not have any overarching plan or programme for offshore wind. Therefore, applications for such windfarms are intended to be considered by the Scottish Government on a case-by-case basis.

Award of any site or sites will be restricted to companies or consortia that have registered under this call for expression of interest by the closing date.

Terms of Registration

Registration is strictly confidential and implies no commitment by companies, consortia or The Crown Estate.

Any company or body actively considering applying to develop a windfarm project in Scottish territorial waters must submit details electronically by 12:00 noon 23 June 2008 to:

  • Scottish windfarms email

Interested parties must submit a statement containing the following details:

  • Company or consortia members and company address and registration numbers
  • The name and contact details of a nominated company or consortia representative
  • The size of development (in megawatts) you are considering.

Details of any preferred location or site must not be submitted at this stage. Registrations will be acknowledged and application documentation will be sent out to registered parties in due course. Any queries on this process should be sent to the email address above.
