Choice Based Lettings – The Key Points

The CBL system gives maximum choice to our affordable housing applicants by advertising properties available for viewing every two weeks.

Please remember however: only apply for the properties that you have a serious interest in.

Applicants who are successful will be expected to accept the tenancy that is offered. If you are in a position to bid, we strongly advise you to view the property first.

  • Applicants must meet our existing standard criteria, details of which can be obtained from our local housing offices.
  • Applicants who have been accepted into the pool will be able to choose which vacant property they bid for, subject to household size.
  • Bids can be submitted online. Alternative arrangements can be made for applicants without internet access.
  • Properties are regularly advertised, normally every fortnight, to everyone in the pool.
  • Bids are ranked by date of registration. Results of the bidding process will be published fortnightly with the next edition.
  • The Crown Estate lets its affordable housing on assured shorthold tenancies to all applicants, with the exception of transfer cases, who retain their existing tenancy terms.
