How do I apply for a transfer / exchange?

If you are a Crown Estate tenant, you can apply for a transfer if the property you are living in is no longer suitable for your needs. This might mean that your family size has changed or you develop a medical condition that reduces your mobility.

If your application is accepted, you will be able to bid from properties in our choice based lettings scheme.

Before you apply, please note that:

1.    We do not consider transfer requests for another property of the same size unless you have a medical condition that makes your current accommodation unsuitable.

2.    We will only accept requests for accommodation that is suitable for your household size.

3.    If you are applying for a transfer on medical grounds, both you and your doctor / specialist will need to complete a Medical Assessment form. These are available from your local estate office. You will have to pay any fees that are charged by your doctor or specialist for providing this information.

4 .    You must have had a clear rent account for the previous 6 months at the time of your application and when you are offered a tenancy.

For further details contact your local estate office.

If you would like to exchange your property, it is up to you to find another person with whom to swap. Before you can go ahead, you will need the approval of both landlords. When you have found a person to swap with, write to your local estate office with the name, address of both the other person and their landlord.

Please note that:

1.    You must have had a clear rent account for the previous 6 months at the time of your application and when your move is due to take place.

2.    The person you exchange with will have to pay the full 'ceiling rent' on the property. This information is available from your local estate office.
