The Crown Estate has a number of special parks and gardens that are enjoyed by millions each year. The most famous is The Savill Garden at Windsor Great Park established in 1932 by Sir Eric Savill and now internationally renowned for its rhododendrons and spring borders. The Savill Garden is open all year round and is home to several national collections that would otherwise not be present in this country.
The Savill Garden is part of The Royal Landscape, on the southern edge of Windsor Great Park, and which also includes The Valley Gardens and Virginia Water.
The Old Deer Park in Richmond, London, is another historic holding of The Crown Estate and has grade 1 listed status. This means it has to be maintained to the highest standards for the benefit of all users and The Crown Estate has developed a landscape strategy for the Old Deer Park which prevents inappropriate development taking place within the park.
