THE CROWN ESTATE PROMOTES SUSTAINABLE AND COMMUNITY-LED DEVELOPMENT ON REGENT STREET

The Crown Estate is carrying out one of the biggest ever developments in London’s West End - a £500m development on Regent Street. With such a large amount of construction involved, the processes being employed take on greater significance.

With this in mind, The Crown Estate is promoting a variety of initiatives in the redevelopment buildings. These include:

  • chilled ceilings
  • photovoltaic cells
  • micro combined heat and power units
  • rainwater harvesting.

Rainwater harvesting, for instance, will deliver 150,000 litres annually on our ‘W5’ project — a single building at 185 – 191 Regent Street. Such a practice will reduce water use and assist flood management.

The first project on Regent Street has won a national considerate contractor award and The Crown Estate are piloting with Bovis Lend Lease a NoWaste project to reduce wastage on site.

David Shaw, Head of Retail Portfolio, The Crown Estate, said, “Prior to the development there was the widest public consultation not only with interested organisations but also directly with the public.  Some 30 organisations were involved in the latest consultation, and the open exhibition was visited by over 800 members of the public.”
