Epitomising the quality and high standards demanded by The Crown Estate during construction of projects on our estates is a new development in the village of Burnhill Green in the Midlands.
Strong relationships with the local authority and local residents ensured that local needs were identified and met during the design process. The ten house development on the Patshull estate, near Wolverhampton, carefully and sensitively responds to its surroundings.
The new buildings conform to the village’s established architectural style and use local brick and clay tiles, and sustainably sourced timber for window casements and porches. All homes incorporate exceptional insulation (using sheep wool) and renewable energy technology enables occupiers to monitor their energy consumption.
The area in front of the new homes creates a new village green. New wildlife habitats have been created through planting native trees and shrubs and creating ponds and wetland areas.
Four of the ten homes are affordable rented housing and all will be managed directly by The Crown Estate. As part of the project three other homes in the area were fully refurbished.
Work started on the development at the end of April 2009 and was complete in spring 2010. The project team included architects Watson Bertram & Fell, building contractors J S Seddon and project managers Knight Frank.
