Davy Asher
A Morayshire crofter and estate worker who retired in March 2007 after 48 years of service has received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Clare Russell, the Lord Lieutenant for Banffshire. Davy Asher has worked on The Crown Estate’s Glenlivet estate since 1958 and latterly has been a member of the Fochabers and Glenlivet estates maintenance team. He was nominated for the award by Andy Wells, Countryside Manager, and the Scottish Rural Property and Business Association (SRPBA). The SRPBA Long Service Awards are available to all SRPBA members for their estate or farm employees. The award is for unbroken completion of twenty or more years of service at one place of employment.
Born and brought up in Downan on Glenlivet, Davy’s first job was lambing at nearby Nevie. Over his lifetime of work he has become an expert in a number of areas, such as salmon smoking and fencing. He spent a period of time with the Agriculture Training Board, passing on his fencing skills to farmers and forestry workers from all over Scotland.
Davy’s colleague Jimmy Gordon said, “Davy has been a huge asset to the Glenlivet estate and community. His range of skills makes him an excellent all round estate worker and we’ll certainly miss him and his expertise.”
