Huub den Rooijen joined The Crown Estate in 2012, and sits on our Group Leadership Team as Managing Director of our Marine Business Unit.
In this role, Huub leads our work as manager of the seabed and much of the foreshore around England, Wales and Northern Ireland, striving to unlock the potential of these unique assets for the benefit of the nation. This includes seabed rights for the sustainable development of low carbon energy and infrastructure projects such as offshore wind, CO2 storage, cables, pipelines and marine aggregates, as well as investing in wider activity to make the seabed an attractive place to invest.
Huub has over 30 years of experience in the energy sector, predominantly working with Shell where he started as a research geophysicist. He worked in the upstream business in The Hague, Houston and London, and in the late nineties was one of the founders of Shell’s wind energy business where he was responsible for the first offshore wind projects in the UK and the Netherlands.
He has several non-executive roles, including as a Board member of the Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult. Huub lives in Kent and holds a degree in astrophysics from Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
