The Crown Estate has announced today the freehold purchase of the Deganwy marina in Conwy, north Wales.
Bought from Interguide Investment Holdings, the 165 berth marina is set in the village of Deganwy amongst the beautiful surroundings of the north Wales coastline, and has superb sailing waters. The marina will be leased to Quay Marinas and will operate as Deganwy Quay Marina, with the office and retail space leased to Majestic Yachts.
The on-site facilities include:
- 165 fully serviced pontoons
- Marine diesel and petrol available
- Toilets, showers, bathrooms and laundry facilities in marina building
- Water and electricity supply available on all pontoons
- Boatyard service and 20 tonne mobile hoist
- Hardstanding area
- Chandlery / boat sales on site (Majestic Yachts).
Deganwy marina is four years old and has recently been awarded Blue Flag status, only one of four marinas in Wales to have achieved this.
Deganwy marina is The Crown Estate’s first marina acquisition and their first investment in Wales. It represents the beginning of a major investment strategy at The Crown Estate which will seek to make direct investments in the marine estate.
Rob Hastings, Director of the Marine Estate at The Crown Estate, said: “We are delighted to announce the purchase of Deganwy marina. Being our first direct investment in Wales and the first acquisition made as part of our new investment programme, I am looking forward to working with Quay Marinas and Majestic Yachts to make Deganwy a premier destination in north Wales.”
Simon Haigh, Managing Director of Quay Marinas, said: “We are delighted that Deganwy marina has joined our marina group and we look forward to meeting all existing berth holders and welcoming new customers prior to the start of the 2008 season. Deganwy Quays Marina provides an idyllic environment to keep a boat in north Wales, and is the perfect location to relax and enjoy the finest of lifestyle boating experiences. Securing a lease of the marina from The Crown Estate is an important business achievement for Quay Marinas, cementing an already successful partnership which has been well proven at Conwy Quays Marina where Quay Marinas also hold a long term lease with The Crown Estate.”
Strutt & Parker acted for the vendor. Colin Crosthwaite of Strutt & Parker Leisure & Hotels said: “We are very pleased to have acted on behalf of Alan Dugard of Interguide Investment Holdings Ltd in the sale of Deganwy marina which, after considerable market interest, has resulted in this landmark purchase by The Crown Estate.”
