THE ROYAL LANDSCAPE INSPIRES FIRST EVER ART WEEK AT THE SAVILL GARDEN, WINDSOR GREAT PARK

11 May 2009

The Royal Landscape is hosting its first ever art week from 20-26 July, with special workshops and art activities for individuals, children and families inspired by the beautiful Savill Garden. The events will take place in The Savill Garden, The Savill Building gallery and terrace, weather permitting.

The Savill Building Manager Anna Marshall explains: “Art week has grown out of the great visitor response to the recently opened Savill Building gallery and a desire to encourage a ‘creative buzz’ in The Savill Garden.  People are fascinated to watch artists working and we hope that this series of art events will appeal to anyone who would like to express their creativity regardless of talent or experience. Art is fun and we want to bring together serious skills based workshops with family projects using the fantastic backdrop of The Savill Garden as inspiration.”

RHS award winning botanical artist Anna Knights will be the artist in residence throughout the week. Visitors will be able to watch and ask questions about technique, composition and experience as she works.

Day workshops, suitable for all skill levels will also be running. Join artist Kate Osborne in her watercolour workshop and learn more about brush handling, techniques and colour. Locally based illustrator Kerry Lemon will lead an inspirational drawing workshop for adults; and Oxford printmaker, Jane Peart, will provide the opportunity to develop a drypoint print and experiment with other printing processes. These workshops (for which there is a charge) have limited availability and need to be pre-booked.

Activities aimed specifically at children and families include a special summer sunflowers children’s workshop to create a three foot, free standing sculpture of a sunflower on Thursday 23 July with artist Kerry Lemon. Places should be pre-booked and there is a charge.

Families can join in a free fun project to create ‘Savill Family Trees’ along the back wall of the gallery. As a family or group, simply use your imagination to help to create a mural of trees, leaves, bugs and birds using different materials and stencils.

Please note that all events are subject to change and if making a special trip, it is advisable to call 01784 435 544 or visit the events section of the website for the most current information.
