Press Release

THREE NEW RETAILERS COMING TO REGENT STREET

12 August 2005

The Crown Estate announces the arrival of three new retailers in Regent Street at the same time as the last airline shop is closed. Regent Street will soon welcome Kipling, Frey Wille and Alex Reade Motor Sport. The closure of the last airline shop completes a further part of The Crown Estate’s strategy to improve tenant mix and focus on retailers who meet the needs of 21st century shoppers.

Kipling, a lifestyle brand with design-driven products in many sectors, such as luggage and clothing, will take 1,000 sq ft at 205 Regent Street replacing the last airline shop. Since the foundation of the business in 1987 in Holland, Kipling has grown from an initial idea of creating original high quality backpacks which added a sense of fun and adventure to everyday life, into a worldwide brand trading in 48 countries with a highly distinctive appeal. Kipling will open in November.

International jewellery manufacturers Frey Wille will be taking 900 sq ft at 153 Regent Street. The Austrian based enamel jewellers are fitting out their new flagship store at present and will open in September. Frey Wille have been designing and manufacturing fine enamel jewellery and accessories since 1951 and are now an internationally renowned company, famed for their visually distinctive pieces.

Taking 2,000 sq ft at 78 Regent Street are Alex Reade Motorsport who are relocating their flagship store to Regent Street from nearby Fouberts Place. The store will accommodate the company’s ever expanding range of motorsport related merchandise. Set over two floors the flagship store will carry clothing, memorabilia, artwork, books, DVDs and much more for the motorsport enthusiast; it is expected to open by mid August.

David Shaw, Head of Regent Street Strategy & Development at The Crown Estate, said: “Despite the current challenges facing the West End we are thrilled to have secured three such excellent retailers to add to the existing retail tenant mix on Regent Street. The £500 million refurbishment programme for Regent Street is enabling us to continue to attract the best of national and international retailers all contributing to making Regent Street a unique international shopping destination, synonymous with quality, heritage, style and success.”
