THE REGENT STREET FESTIVAL 2008: A GREAT BRITISH EXPERIENCE

The Regent Street Festival 2008: A Great British Experience takes place in London W1 on Sunday 7 September 2008. As one of the most anticipated annual free outdoor events, Regent Street will be closed to traffic from 12 noon to 8pm welcoming people from all over the world with an expected footfall of over 600,000.
British boy band; Avenue, who found fame on TV’s X Factor will kick things off by opening the festival at 12 noon, singing a selection of songs including their new single 'Last Goodbye' which will go on sale the following day. British film director William Archer is currently filming a short film titled 'Regent Street' which will screened for the first time on the festival day in the lecture theatre at the Apple European flagship store. Cutting edge theatre company; The Factory Theatre will be performing a unique full production of Hamlet live on Regent Street whilst the Royal Academy of Music is bringing a fantastic selection of musicians including string and brass ensembles and singers to entertain the public. Habitat is hosting a fantastic two week photographic exhibition, Love London, by British photographer Barbara Chandler opening 3 September 2008.
From traditional marching bands and Scottish pipers to contemporary singer songwriters and dance groups, there will be a huge selection of British content. The London Taxi Institute are bringing a brand new taxi TX4 and vintage Austin 6 for children to sit in and also have their photo taken. There will also be a British vintage car display on Regent Street too.
From the eccentric to the classically quintessential, the public will be tempted by British food stalls and traditional food quarters serving fish n chips and even British curry! A veteran car display, taxi exhibit and urban picnic area will appear on Regent Street on the day.
Regent Street boasts an outstanding collection of international retailers with no less than 31 flagship stores, many of whom will be participating by offering an assortment of ‘British’ themed in-store activities, promotions and added value incentives. Godiva will be selling British blackberries and selected fruits covered in its delicious Belgian chocolate. Austin Reed will host traditional afternoon tea, whilst Bose in conjunction with Moss Bros will host a stylish James Bond-themed afternoon. British ‘cover bands’ will perform live in store at Zavvi. Regent Street retailers and restaurants will be offering a celebratory 10% festival offer throughout the day.
The public have the opportunity to enter the Great British Experience online photographic competition with the finalists having their images shown in a Regent Street exhibition in 2009. The overall winning image will receive a £500 shopping experience on Regent Street and £300 worth of vouchers from UK photographic retailer Jessops. Heddon Street and Swallow Street, Regent Street’s Food Quarters, will all be taking part in the festivities by offering a selection of traditional British ‘specials’ such as fish and chips from Fishworks, sausage and mash provided by The Living Room W1, sensational curry dishes from Veeraswamy and the Absolut Ice Bar will be displaying ice sculptures on Regent Street and serving vodka from a real ice bar!
