F1 MCLAREN AND CARNIVAL QUEENS ON HEDDON STREET

15 June 2007

Heddon Street, the Regent Street food quarter, is celebrating the alfresco season by hosting a series of Spanish evenings. On the Wednesdays and Thursdays of June mini-fiestas are being created on Regent Street, delivering the authentic tastes, sounds and sensations of Spain.

Heddon Street has a great diversity of restaurants and bars, including: Piccolino, La Locanda, The Absolute Ice Bar, Below Zero, The Living Room, Momo, Strawberry Moons and most recently opened, Aubaine.

In collaboration with the Spanish Tourist Office there will be a showcase on each of the evenings from some of the Spanish regions: Andalusia, the Balearic Islands, Castile and Leon, Costa Brava-Girona, The Canary Islands - Gran Canaria and Tenerife, Murcia, La Rioja, Valencia the region and Valencia the city, as well as the Paradors of Spain.

Spanish entertainment is planned throughout the event: one of the highlights will be the Carnival Queens who are flying in from the Canary Islands to perform during lunchtime on Friday and Saturday, 15-16 June. There will be a spectacular parade of girls and boys wearing carnival costumes in Regent Street before their performance in Heddon Street. Diners and visitors can also listen to Spanish guitars and watch incredible Flamenco dancing.

Spanish bank Santander, owner of UK bank Abbey, is the main sponsor of A Taste of Spain and is delighted to be associated with this event. Celebrating its 150th anniversary this year, Santander is a corporate sponsor of Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 team, as part of the 'Taste of Spain' celebrations, and celebrating the win by Lewis Hamilton at the weekend Santander will exhibit a model of the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes F1 car in Heddon Street from 15 - 17 June.

Celebrations will also occur in Regent Street as selected retailers take part – Bose, Gerry Weber, Hamleys, Mamas and Papa’s, Hobbs, Penhaligon’s, Kent and Curwen, Hoss Intropia, and Desigual – providing shoppers with special offers, in-store promotions and gourmet delights throughout the month.
