Press Release
JOINT VENTURE FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF TARBERT HARBOUR
25 October 2007
The Trustees of the Board of Tarbert Harbour Authority and The Crown Estate announced today that they are investigating the possibility of taking forward the development plans for the harbour by entering into a joint venture.
The plans are for additional berthing at the north pontoons together with improved shore side facilities. This exciting prospect will enhance not only the quality of the facilities on offer but will improve the appearance of the whole of the north side of the inner harbour area.
We support the village’s efforts to improve facilities that will be of all year round benefit to visitors and residents alike.
Rob Hastings, Director of the Marine Estate at The Crown Estate, said: “The Crown Estate has an active programme for investment and development in both leisure and commercial activities of coastal communities across Scotland and the rest of the UK. We are very pleased to be able to support Tarbert Harbour to help it develop its potential as an important sailing location on the west coast of Scotland.
“We strongly advocate the idea that this part of Scotland should be seen as a world class location for sailing and we hope that our support for Tarbert Harbour and the Scottish Series regatta, along side other development activity that we have in the area, will contribute to furthering this objective and strengthening the local economy.”
Mr Alan Macdonald, Chairman of the Board of Tarbert Harbour Authority said: “We are delighted at this opportunity to discuss a joint venture with The Crown Estate. If a suitable agreement can be reached we will be able to take forward the improvement of the harbour facilities at a much faster rate than we could otherwise have hoped for. We are looking forward to working with The Crown Estate’s representatives to develop a mutually beneficial agreement that will have an enormous impact on the local economy. The positive and flexible approach taken by The Crown Estate gives me confidence that a suitable arrangement can be found that will be beneficial to both parties.”
