Climate resilient and energy secure future

We help enable the UK’s transition to a low-carbon, climate-resilient and energy-secure future through our role in offshore wind and wider energy infrastructure, while reducing emissions and strengthening resilience across our own portfolio.

Tackling climate change, accelerating the transition to low-carbon energy and adapting to its impacts are urgent global priorities. In the UK, rising temperatures, flooding, coastal change and pressure on infrastructure are already affecting people, places and nature. Responding to these challenges means expanding clean energy, strengthening energy security and cutting emissions, while making buildings, places and infrastructure more resilient. Meeting these challenges requires action across national energy systems and the assets we manage directly.

Our portfolio gives us a practical role in responding to these challenges. Across real estate, land and seabed, we can help unlock clean energy infrastructure, support wider decarbonisation and strengthen the resilience of the places and assets we manage. We do this by investing in infrastructure, supply chains and data, and by working with communities, customers, tenants, businesses and policymakers to support delivery.

Our approach is guided by science-based pathways and sector-level plans that help us reduce emissions, build resilience and invest over time, alongside our role in enabling the UK’s energy transition.

  • Clean power

We enable 13GW of grid-connected offshore wind capacity, helping to support the UK's transition to clean, secure energy.

  • Displacing C02

18 million tonnes of CO₂e displaced through offshore wind in our waters in 2025/26.

  • Using less energy

20% reduction in energy consumption across our operations since 2021/22.

Enabling the UK transition

We support national climate and energy goals by enabling offshore wind, renewable energy infrastructure and storage, supporting carbon sequestration across land and seabed, and working across sectors and places to unlock wider decarbonisation.

Decarbonising our portfolio

We are reducing emissions across our portfolio by aligning with sector pathways and embedding carbon reduction and climate resilience into investment and asset management decisions. Having made progress on earlier energy-efficiency measures, our focus is now on the next phase of decarbonisation: tackling the more complex emissions challenges across a diverse portfolio, including buildings and heritage assets, where changes need to protect long-term value while respecting their character, use and performance.

Building climate resilience

Alongside decarbonisation, we are strengthening the resilience of our assets to a changing climate, helping to safeguard people, nature and long-term performance. We do this by improving ecosystem health, enhancing blue and green infrastructure, and embedding nature-based solutions across our portfolio.

Creating long-term value

By integrating decarbonisation and climate resilience into how we manage and invest in our portfolio, we are strengthening performance today while preparing for the future.

Our role in enabling the UK’s energy transition, particularly through offshore wind and wider energy infrastructure, combined with action across our own assets, helps us contribute to a more resilient, low-carbon and energy-secure economy while continuing to deliver long-term value for the nation.
