Socio-economic benefits of marine industries
The Seabed User and Developer Group (SUDG) has recently published a new report into the socio-economic benefits of marine industries.
UK marine industries make an essential contribution to the economic and social wellbeing of the UK, and this report is the first detailed assessment of the contribution of UK marine industries since 2008. Since that time there has been significant change in the way the marine environment is managed in the UK. The report provides an accessible, easy to read output with an up to date picture of the economic importance of marine industry. The report also provides information to help support assessment and decision making in relation to natural capital as we see a growing move to better understand natural capital assets. A copy of the report can be downloaded from the SUDG website here.
SUDG represents some of the UKs key marine industries including oil and gas, renewable energy, marine aggregates, ports, submarine cables, recreational boating and carbon capture and underground storage (CCUS). It was established in 2008 and is an affiliation of key marine industries which are linked in their commitment to sustainable development. More information about SUDG is available on the SUDG website http://www.sudg.org.uk.
