Rushden Lakes announces raft of new lettings as next phase opens
Rushden Lakes, The Crown Estate’s retail and leisure destination in Northamptonshire, celebrates its first birthday with the launch of its next phase, the East Terrace, and a raft of new store openings, including local brand AJ Cycles.
On Saturday 28th July, a year to the day since the first stores opened, AJ Cycles opened its biggest ever store. The new 4,000 sq ft space from the independent, family-run brand combines an extensive retail offer with a repair workshop, professional fitting services and cycle hire, enabling visitors to explore the surrounding 200 acres of Nene Wetlands nature reserve.
Also signed for the East Terrace are leisure brands Cotswold Outdoor and Decathlon, as well as Hobbycraft and Wren Kitchens, all of which are set to open in the coming weeks. The total space leased on the East Terrace is 35,000 sq ft.
With these latest openings, Rushden Lakes has bolstered its line-up of independent retailers and major brands. AJ Cycles joins fellow independents Magazine Heaven, which stocks the widest selection of magazines under one roof anywhere in the UK, Northamptonshire-based café brand Bewiched and Canoe2, the local canoe specialist.
Robert Goddard, another independent brand, opened its first store at Rushden Lakes in October 2017. Following the overwhelming success of the store, Robert Goddard has gone on to double its presence at Rushden Lakes and now occupies 4,600 sq ft across two stores, the second of which is set to open later this year
Hayley Turley, The Crown Estate’s Asset Manager for Rushden Lakes, said: “Rushden Lakes has had a successful first year, welcoming four and a half million people. The opening of East Terrace brings fantastic new brands to Northamptonshire and will give visitors more opportunities to connect with our outstanding natural surroundings. With further phases of Rushden Lakes on track for launch in 2019, we will continue to enhance our overall offer and create even more reasons to visit.”
Paul Scanes, Manager of AJ Cycles, said: “We here at AJ Cycles are super excited to be opening a bicycle and hire store at Rushden Lakes. The development has been a huge success so far and we are looking forward to offering something different. The cycle tracks around the development are fantastic, and we want more people to enjoy the great outdoors by bicycle.”Back to Media & Insights
