The Crown Estate partners with Hong Kong's Lee Tung Avenue to spread the spirit of Christmas
The Spirit of Christmas, The Crown Estate’s iconic Christmas lighting scheme for its Central London portfolio, is a magical, festive celebration and the capital’s largest Christmas lighting scheme.
Now in its third year, The Spirit of Christmas will return to the Regent Street and St James’s neighbourhoods from November 15th. This year, The Crown Estate is breaking new ground and launching its iconic Spirits on the global stage through a partnership with Lee Tung Avenue in Hong Kong.
Lee Tung Avenue is a 200-metre pedestrianised shopping destination in the heart of Hong Kong island and will play host to five of Regent Street’s Spirits to celebrate the festive season in true London style.
In London on the evening of November 15th, the grand stretch of Regent Street will be traffic free from Oxford Circus to Piccadilly Circus, enabling visitors to the capital to soak up the festive atmosphere amongst Regent Street’s world-class shops and restaurants.
Continuing the Christmas kick-off, Lee Tung Avenue will be hosting a festive switch-on event on the following day, Friday 16th November, which will feature performances such as Christmas parade. Christmas themed programs will run until the end of the festive season.
James Cooksey, Director of Central London at The Crown Estate, said: “I’m proud that our lights will be making this international debut this year and to have established this partnership with Lee Tung Avenue, a location which is as well-known in Hong Kong, as Regent Street is in London. We know the amazing impact that our Christmas lights display has on shoppers in London and I’m thrilled that this year we will be bringing the spirit of Christmas to visitors to Hong Kong too. Such a partnership reflects the global reach of Regent Street as well as the iconic nature of the lights themselves.”
William Chan, Centre General Manager of Lee Tung Avenue Management Company Limited, also added: “The signature lighting at Regent Street is an annual Christmas tradition in London, not to mention how representative its switch-on ceremony is. We are honoured to be partnered with Regent Street this year, bringing a world-class festive lighting to the audiences in Hong Kong. I’m excited to see this collaboration; we will strengthen the name of being one of the best art and cultural destinations for tourists, both London and Hong Kong.”
The fleet of spectacular large-scale ‘spirits’ are designed by leading British lighting creatives, James Glancy Design. The scheme is designed as a beautiful festive installation for visitors to Regent Street and Lee Tung Avenue to enjoy during the ‘most wonderful time of the year’.Back to Media & Insights
