Work to deliver Fosse Park extension gets underway, with contractors appointed to deliver the development

The Crown Estate, on behalf of the Fosse Partnership, has appointed contractors to deliver its £155 million development at Fosse Park in Leicester, with works commencing on site on 1st April 2019.

The development is set to cement Fosse Park’s position as one of the UK’s leading shopping destinations. It will deliver a new retail extension as well as a re-developed Food Court, broadening the offer for shoppers by creating a total of 13 new retail stores and 16 additional food and beverage units.

Bowmer + Kirkland (B+K), the contractor that originally built Fosse Park almost 30 years ago, has been appointed to deliver the new development, along with Fox Lloyd Jones as project managers.

Building on its ongoing investment at the existing Fosse Park scheme, The Crown Estate is also investing a further £4.9 million to continue its successful work with Faircloth Construction to modernise store facades at Fosse Park, and deliver improvements in the car park and surrounding public realm.

To coincide with the announcement, The Crown Estate has released never before seen CGI images – giving a sense of what the future scheme will look like once complete.

This latest milestone builds on the work delivered last year, to prepare the Castle Acres site for redevelopment.

The extension, due to be completed in 2020, will further enhance what is already one of the UK's most successful shopping parks, which currently attracts 11 million visitors a year.

Mike Bell, Senior Asset Manager for Fosse Park, The Crown Estate, said: “Today marks an important milestone in our investment at Fosse Park, where we’re focused on continuing to improve our offer for visitors. We are excited for construction to begin and look forward to working closely with our contractors and Fosse Park’s retailers to continue building on the scheme’s success as a brilliant place for visitors, shoppers and the local community to enjoy.”

Gary Bradley, Regional Director, Bowmer + Kirkland, said: “We are proud to have been appointed by The Crown Estate to deliver this exciting extension to Fosse Park. Some of our staff who worked on the original scheme 30 years ago are still with us and it’s great for them to see how the development is growing. We are looking forward to working with all our partners to deliver this scheme.”

Darren Faircloth, Director, Faircloth Construction, said: “We are delighted to be continuing our work with The Crown Estate to modernise the look and feel of the current development. The works, including the refurbishment of store facades and improvements to the car park and surroundings, will deliver an enhanced shopping experience for customers and exciting new opportunities for retailers.”
